The Noongar Country exhibition is an annual highlight in the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery calendar.

The exhibition showcases work from established and emerging Indigenous artists residing on Noongar Boodja and showcases the many styles, stories and talents of the region.

The exhibition coincides with reconciliation week and NAIDOC Week and is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse culture, and achievement of all First Nation people.

Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! is the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Observance Committee theme for NAIDOC Week 2022. Noongar Country 2022 theme embraces this with Kaarla Koort-ak: Woonya, Moort, Boodja Hearts on Fire: Love, Family, Country.

Kaarla Koort-ak: Woonya, Moort, Boodja invites contemporary Aboriginal artists living on Noongar Boodja to explore themes which unite us as people. Things such as love, family and our love of boodja and how this relates to the past, present and future of our people.

As part of Noongar Country 2022, we have the opportunity to stand and speak about those things we Aboriginal people care deeply about as our ancestors have done for thousands of years. With hearts on Fire: Woonya, Moort, Boodja.

The exhibition includes a $8,000 major prize sponsored by Alcoa and an Emerging Artist prize of $2,000 sponsored by the South West Development Commission. There is also a $1,500 prize for the Viewer's Choice Award sponsored by Umbrella Reality which will be announced at the end of the exhibition.
