Glass art from the City of Bunbury Art Collection

Australia has a rich history of contemporary studio glass practitioners. The development of Australian glass is largely a narrative of friendships, mentorships, and collaboration between individuals, rather than organisations.
The use of glass as a medium for artistic expression enjoyed a major revival in the United States in the 1960's. At this time technical developments made it possible for individual artists to work in private studios and freed them from the factory model of production. This gave rise to the term 'studio glass' and the artistic phenomenon known as the 'studio glass movement'. This movement emerged in Australia in the early 1970s.

The works in this exhibition are by local West Australian glass artists Michael Hodgson, Kent Le Grand, Peter Reynolds, Indigenous artist Myra Lawson, Nick Altham, Anne Sorensen, and Estelle Dean. Each of these artists have made a major contribution to shaping the art of glass making in Western Australia.
